What does our help with dressing and grooming for seniors include?

At 1st Call Home Care, we will help your loved one who has long or short-term dexterity issues or is recovering from surgery, perform their everyday hygiene tasks. Our standard dressing and grooming help for the elderly includes:

  1. Closet organization: our caregivers will assist in organizing their closets to make sure they have easy access to their clothing plus a safe and clutter-free environment.
  2. Hair styling and nail care: our caregivers can assist with nail polish and cleaning; and if needed, we can assign a caregiver who has professional training in hair cutting, and styling to help your loved one look and feel their best.
  3. Daily oral care: our caregivers can set up and assist with proper teeth brushing, safe shaving, and other essential oral care routines, to promote oral health and hygiene.
  4. Comfortable attire selection: our caregivers check for available loose-fitting and comfortable clothes that allow your loved one to dress with ease and comfort.

Our safety tips for helping your older loved one with dressing and grooming:

Help promote safety, independence, and your senior’s sense of dignity throughout their dressing and grooming routines.

  1. Encourage their independence: whenever possible, try to support and encourage them to self-dress; this promotes a sense of autonomy and self-confidence in your loved one.
  2. Prioritize comfort: help your elderly select comfortable clothing that suits their lifestyle, even when they spend most of their time at home.
  3. Foster open communication: engage them in open conversations to understand where they require assistance. But be mindful that they may hesitate to discuss their needs openly. Try to approach the topic of grooming with patience and empathy.
  4. Be present: let them see you are standing by inside or outside their room as they get ready, just to make sure you can prevent accidents or injuries.
  5. Respect their choices: allow your senior ample time to make decisions regarding their clothing choices, hairstyle, and other aspects of their appearance.

If you or your loved one require assistance in bathing, grooming, or with any of our specialized services, we would love to hear from you.
