Founder, CEO

BRENDA Villanueva, R.N.

Hello. I’m the Founder and CEO of 1st Call Home Care.

What I do:

I’m in charge of the full operations and management of the company.

What I find to be the biggest challenge in the industry:

The shortage of good caregivers.

What I think is the best part of my work:

Home care work is very humbling, and fulfilling work.

When I’m not working:

I do pickleball, I love ballroom dancing, and I also get busy walking my little cute dog.

My best advice to families looking for care?

When you’re loved one is admitted to the hospital or is in a skilled nursing home, start looking for caregiving services already (if you think the situation at home will warrant it). Don’t wait for instructions from the doctor or the discharge planners. Oftentimes, they tell you at the last minute, and then you’re at the mercy of time, stress and you’re under duress trying to look for home care services. Give yourself the heads-up and start planning from Day 1.

Best Advice for Families Looking for Care?

When their finances can sustain it, I would highly recommend that families subscribe to a geriatric care management program. It removes them from the center of such an overwhelming responsibility and transfers that stress over to the care manager. It’s a shift from burdened to relieved. They are able to spend precious time with their older loved ones on better terms and calmer emotional state. It’s actually good for their seniors and for their well-being as well.

Hello. I’m the Staffing Coordinator at 1st Call Home Care.

Years of Experience in the Industry:

Been here 7 years and still counting!

What I do:

I undertake and implement various staffing solutions such as recruitment, scheduling, and performance monitoring. I then submit staffing reports to the Care Manager.

The Biggest Challenge:

Recruiting effectively, and retaining caregivers who are top talents, but then there are also those caregivers who refuse to work or cancel work shifts at the last minute.

The Best Part:

Being able to foster relationships with caregivers and our homecare clients.

When I’m not working:

I’m sleeping.
